Blogging for Etsy!!

Due to my involvement with the video "Lost things" which I blogged about here, I contacted Etsy to see if they wanted to interview me for a blog post about the video as it has had 135,452 views since 26th of February, so it is obviously quite popular. I wanted to see if they would be interested in an interview as I was found through Etsy to produce something for the film that was made in L.A. As I am from the UK and Etsy is an American website I thought it would be a good promotional interview/blog post for me, for the creators of the video and Etsy (as the video has a loose alice in wonderland theme and the film has just been released in the UK) and as it is already getting interest from many design blogs, I thought Etsy would want to be in the 'loop' too.

As one of my photographs was used by Etsy recently for one of their blog posts, I already had a person who I knew I could contact in relation to Etsy's blog so I sent the following email to them -

Hi, I thought I would contact you to ask if you would like to create a blog post in relation my papercuts that I created for a recent project I took part in through Etsy. Angela Kohler (handsomepanda.etsy.com - http://www.angelakohler.com) contacted and found me through Etsy and asked me to create some custom papercuts to be used in an art project that she was creating, that is now complete and can be found here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwX7uEiEWx4 It is a short stop-motion film called 'Lost Things' and is loosely based around an Alice in Wonderland theme. It features the singer A fine frenzy and has already been featured on several great blogs such as Ohjoy and Mint and I think it would appeal to people who read the Etsy blog, plus it is great timing with the release of Tim Burton's film Alice in Wonderland! It was released on the 26th of February and already has 133,893 views on YouTube, so it is obviously quite popular. I thought that you would want to mention it on Etsy's blog as I was found through Etsy and created the papercuts for the film, so It is great promotion for Etsy and shows the kind of things that can be achieved through Etsy as an Etsy artist from the UK. I was sent a list of deliverables such as rules of what can & can't be said, images needed and sizes, word count (below 800!) etc.

DigitalArts Magazine

My papercut Alice in Wonderland Book covers have been featured in DigitalArts magazine's April issue and on their website here! This is a great achievement, as I was interviewed for the magazine online and didn't know if my work would be published in the magazine but it has been! Go out and get your copy, its a great issue !

Wee Birdy

I contacted Rebecca of WeeBirdy.com as part of my New Year promotional plan for mrYen. (I plan to contact a well established blog or website every first Monday of the month, and ask if they will feature my papercut designs) Wee Birdy was named as No.25 out of 50 of the world's best design blogs, announced by The Times Online and she focuses on designs with birds, so I asked if she would feature my valentine papercut that has small birds in the design . I received an email back the same day, and she said she would be happy to feature my papercuts! I will update as soon as she features them on her blog...

idN book - Collaboration with Society6

This is something that I have been working on for a while now and I don't even know if I should be mentioning it yet, but I have been selected to be one of 60 people from about 350 for a collaboration with idN magazine and Society6!

My Love For You is a stampede of Horses

I was contacted by Meighan from the popular art and culture blog "My Love For You is a stampede of Horses" as she wanted to feature my papercut work on her blog, which you can see here. I was so surprised as she also writes a great blog for the art and culture magazine Juxtapoz, on which my work is also featured!

UK handmade

Since I started making papercut designs in my own time and contacting bloggers and websites with my work to be featured, I joined the website UK handmade. This website is a huge resource and point of contact for handmade artists and designers in the UK, so obviously is the first place other people looking for handmade items in the UK will be looking. I received a recent email regarding a valentines day gift guide and the website managers were looking for different valentines gifts, other than jewellery so I contacted them with details of my heart papercuts, and I quickly got an email back saying they would be included in the gift guide!

Upcoming Exhibition

I have been asked to take part in an exhibition that is being organised by the owners of Cut-Click (an on-line magazine) I had my paper cuts featured in Issue 13, the Typography Issue, of their magazine and as they liked my work they asked me to take part in the exhibition. It is an exhibition of mail art - using postcards, envelopes, packages etc that would be sent through the post and I just have to create some art using these materials. Exhibition details:

The exhibition will be held at The East Coast School Of Art & Design.

The exhibition is mail art themed and the packaging is the art work, so send postcards, painted jiffy bags, fold out zines, illustrated envelopes etc.

All work that is sent will be displayed (providing it is suitable and not offensive etc). If you would like your work returned to you please send return postage otherwise it will be kept for the cut-click archive.
